Show Maps: Real-time map sharing, now on Facebook™

We recently released a beta version of Show Maps – an application that lets Facebook users share and annotate maps with others in real-time.

When using maps, people often share information about locations, plan trips together and mark places of interest. With Showdocument, our fully-featured web meeting and real-time collaboration tool, users can do all that online, in real-time. Due to the popularity of Facebook we released a version that can be used within Facebook, called ’Show Maps’.

Share and mark routes and places of interest…

Show Maps can be used for various purposes. For example, it can be used by jogging partners to mark a running route on a map, by real-estate agents who want to show each other property locations, or by those who plan a trip and mark places they are going to visit, as shown in the screenshot below.

A map being shared and annotated in Show Maps

A Facebook user can share and annotate on maps with a group of friends; Show Maps allows multi-user map sharing. While sharing maps, users can see their friends’ cursors on the map, chat by either using the standard Facebook chat or the built-in Show Maps chat. The maps and annotations can then be saved locally or published on Facebook!

Try Show Maps for yourself

You can find the application by searching for ‘Show Maps’ on Facebook, or by visiting the Show Maps Facebook page. Once you launch the application, you can invite others by clicking on the ‘Invite new participants’ button. From that point onward, you and your friends will all be seeing the same map and can add real-time annotations.

Like Showdocument, Show Maps is completely free!

Showdocument has just got a new release with new looks and features!

Showdocument contains a set of tools for online real-time collaboration. It enables multiple users to work together; for example, to sketch on a whiteboard, view and annotate maps and even watch videos simultaneously. The new version is more stable and includes a new text-editor and an improved user experience with a new user interface.

A new word-processor

The new release of Showdocument includes a new version of the collaborative document editor, which now supports creating, opening, editing and saving Microsoft® Word documents (doc and docx file formats) as well as other text documents (e.g. rtf, txt).

As shown in the screenshot below, the application supports various text properties like font, size, color etc, as well as alignment. It also supports multi-languages, so writing in right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew is also enabled.

The new interface and the updated Showdocument word-processor

Looks better and easier to use!

The general look and feel of the application has been improved and is now more contemporary looking. We’ve been working hard to improve the user interface, so the updated interface is more pleasant and the application is easier to use.

Scalability and stability

Various server changes have been implemented that allow the system to deal with activity peaks when many users use it at the same time. Remember that in a collaborative session, Showdocument supports not only two but a multiple number of concurrent users.

Try it

Try the new version of Showdocument for yourself – we’d love to hear your feedback.

While many services and programs have high quality, some of them also create obstacles, like supporting only one platform or browser, which naturally does not fit for many users. The web-based application, on the other hand, enables you to work from any place and on any computer. But that’s just a part of the idea. For web-based services to work for every business, they should be simple, light and accessible – while still packing multiple options to fit any kind of web conference. That is the purpose of ShowDocument.
